Supporting children and young people to reach their full potential.

The Council has a small number of direct responsibilities with regard to schools. It is responsible for providing school places to meet demand, which we have done.  By ensuring we have enough school places we are supporting parents in their desire to have greater choice.

The Council is only responsible for passing the money from the government on to schools.

The running of your local school is the responsibility of its governors.

The Council supports schools through its highly rated school improvement service. Working with teachers and governors the school improvement service offers help with driving up standards and enhancing the learning environment. The results in our schools have continued to improve.

We will continue to:

  • actively promote apprenticeships.
  • encourage local businesses to engage with local schools to provide expertise that will assist in preparing your child for life after school.
  • work with schools to deliver the proper level of support to those children that most need it.
  • maintain the schools for which we are responsible.
  • support effective school governance.
  • encourage residents to become a school governor.
  • work with schools to achieve the highest standards possible.
